The forehead lift/brow lift aims at getting rid of the horizontal and vertical wrinkles of the forehead and to elevate the eyebrows. The same operation is used with some variation when the only aim is to raise the brows to a higher position. In women, they are usually slightly arched and above the bony rim of the eye socket, while in men, they are straighter and at the level of the rim. A forehead lift can be achieved through different techniques: open, endoscopic, direct skin excision or thread. During the initial consultation, Dr. Melki will go over these techniques and discuss the one which best applies to you.
Have you noticed those deep cheek folds extending from the side of your nose down to the angle of your mouth, the jowls, the turkey gobbler and the wrinkled neck lately? Have you pulled back the skin of your face and neck and marveled at the result? If the answer is yes, then you have just performed a facelift! By pulling and repositioning the skin and underlying structures, the facelift aims at restoring the youthful appearance of the mid face and neck. Whether done alone or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures, this type of operations is considered essential to the overall rejuvenation of the face.
Rhinoplasty or nose surgery is one of the most commonly performed operations in the Middle East. It involves changing the way your nose looks. It can be done in conjunction with most intranasal operations as well as other cosmetic procedures. Despite being done very often, rhinoplasty is considered to be the most difficult operation in plastic surgery. Satisfaction with the final result depends not only on the surgeon's skills but also on your expectations. It is for this reason that choosing an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Melki coupled with an honest discussion of your need is a first step towards avoiding future disappointment.
Excess upper eyelid skin, lower eyelid puffiness due to bulging fat tend to make us appear more tired and older than we really are. Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery aims at restoring a youthful appearance to the eyes by removing the redundant skin as well as the excess fat. The lower eyelids can be approached in two different ways: if only excess fat is to be removed, which is usually the case in young people, an incision on the inside of the eyelid is made. When fat and excess skin are the problem, the incision is made just under the lashes and is usually hidden in the wrinkles. The scars are barely perceptible in the external approach due to the nature of the eyelid skin and invisible after an internal approach. If the upper lids are to be addressed, an elliptical incision is performed in the groove of the lid and the excess skin and /or fat are removed.
Protrusion of the ears is due to their incomplete folding towards the side of the head during gestation. The resulting ear deformity or what is commonly known as lop ear can be a source of emotional distress to both males and females regardless of age. Otoplasty is an operation aimed at decreasing the angle between the ears and the side of the head in order to confer to them a normal appearance. It can be done at almost any age. In adults, there is no upper age limit. In children, and in boys in particular, it is preferable to perform this operation before they enter school at around age 5, in order to avoid the potential psychological trauma associated with this deformity. Girls, on the other hand, can have the surgery differed till age 7 or 8 since their hair can be easily arranged to camouflage their ear protrusion.
